I downloaded and installed Expression Web trial.  In my world, that was a HUGE mistake.  Maybe I egregiously overlooked something in the install docs?  All of my setting in VS2005 were reset.  I had only 1 toolbar left, basic toolbox items, etc.  Basically the whole VS2005 IDE was reset to factory defaults, it appears.  It totally wiped out any reference to AJAX Control Toolkit.

Am I the only one this has happened to?

No more touching anything remotely relevant to MS Expression for me.

Yours is the first report I've seen. I have Visual Studio 2005 and Visual Web Developer 2008 installed without any problems. I will note that I installed both of those after installing Expression but I've installed the current v2 beta of Expression Web after installing those programs without any issues. Since Visual Studio 2005 ships with the full Expression Studio I think if was a common problem we'd have seen lots of cases of Expression corrupting Visual Studio 2005.

Doing  a repair install of Visual Studio 2005 should resolve yoru problem.

 I am confused.  You state  "Since Visual Studio 2005 ships with the full Expression Studio ",  I have the full retail box of VS2005 Pro.  I am unable to locate anything relative to Expression in the set.  Where is it?

Also, I attempted to install Expression AFTER I have had VS2005 installed for months. That is when all of my VS2005 IDE elements were reset to the 'out of the box' settings.

 The full version of Expression Studio includes:

Expression Blend
Expression Design
Expression Media which incules Expression Encoder
Expression Web Visual Studio 2005 Pro

Today they release Version 2 http://www.microsoft.com/expression/

Visual Studio 2005 does not include any of the Expression programs. It was released considerably before any of the Expression programs.
 

 You listed the inclusion of "Expression Web Visual Studio 2005 Pro ".  I checked the link you included but could not find anything related to VS2005.  Can you tell me where to find out more info about this?
